English

Introduction: Rural communities represent one of the significant social forces shaping the political and social structures of a country. With appropriate educational opportunities, rural youth possess the potential to actively contribute to national development policies. The present study was conducted with the objective of examining the influence of individual-level factors on the political participation of rural youth in Guilan Province, Iran.

Materials and Methods: Methodologically, this research is applied in nature and adopts a quantitative approach. The statistical population comprised young individuals residing in the villages of eastern Guilan in 2023, from which a sample of 241 participants was selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a researcher-designed questionnaire consisting of 14 items, with a Cronbach’s alpha reliability coefficient of 0.83, indicating satisfactory internal consistency.

Results and Discussion:The findings of the analysis of variance (ANOVA) demonstrated that higher educational attainment, student status, type of occupation, parental educational levels, and maternal employment were significantly and positively associated with political participation. Additionally, socioeconomic status exhibited a positive correlation with political engagement. Among the variables examined, individual educational attainment, occupational status, and maternal educational level emerged as the strongest predictors of political participation among rural youth.

Conclusions:These findings suggest that improving educational opportunities and promoting socio-economic conditions, particularly focusing on educational attainment and maternal education, could enhance political participation among rural youth.
